DIY Lip Scrubs for Soft and Supple Lips This Winter
Winter is here, and so is the season of dry, chapped lips. I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing worse than trying to apply lipstick on cracked lips—it’s a disaster! That’s why I’ve started making my own DIY lip scrubs. They’re fun to create, super affordable, and, most importantly, they work wonders.
In this blog, I’ll share some of my favorite DIY lip scrub recipes, along with tips to keep your lips smooth and hydrated all winter long. Trust me; your lips will thank you.
Why Do Lips Get Chapped in Winter?
Winter’s chilly air and low humidity levels can strip moisture from your lips. Unlike other parts of your skin, lips don’t have oil glands, making them more prone to dryness. But don’t worry; a simple lip care routine can help combat this issue.
DIY Lip Scrubs You’ll Love
Here are three easy-to-make lip scrub recipes that I swear by:
1. Sugar and Honey Lip Scrub
This classic scrub is my go-to. It’s gentle yet effective and uses ingredients you probably already have at home.
Ingredients:
1 tsp sugar (brown or white)
1 tsp honey
A drop of olive oil or coconut oil
Instructions:
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl.
Apply the scrub to your lips and massage gently in circular motions for about a minute.
Rinse off with warm water and apply your favorite lip balm.
2. Coffee and Coconut Oil Scrub
If you’re a coffee lover like me, this one’s a treat! The coffee granules exfoliate, while coconut oil hydrates.
Ingredients:
1 tsp ground coffee
1 tsp coconut oil
A tiny drop of vanilla extract (optional, for a lovely scent)
Instructions:
Combine the ingredients to form a paste.
Rub it on your lips for a minute or two.
Rinse and pat dry.
3. Beetroot and Sugar Scrub
This scrub not only softens your lips but also gives them a natural pink tint.
Ingredients:
1 tsp beetroot juice
1 tsp sugar
A few drops of almond oil
Instructions:
Mix the ingredients thoroughly.
Gently scrub your lips with the mixture for 1-2 minutes.
Wash off and enjoy your naturally tinted lips.
Lip Care Tips for Winter
Making these scrubs is just half the battle. Here are some tips I personally follow to maintain healthy lips throughout winter:
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water. Hydration starts from within.
Use a Humidifier: It helps maintain moisture in the air, keeping your skin and lips hydrated.
Avoid Licking Your Lips: This habit can make them even drier.
Choose the Right Lip Balm: Look for balms with ingredients like shea butter, beeswax, and vitamin E.
Let’s Talk Lip Balms
After scrubbing, always follow up with a nourishing lip balm. I recently discovered a balm with lanolin and jojoba oil, and it’s a game-changer!
